The North Wales Crusaders Foundation are delighted to announce our new project being ran by our Community Development Officer, Jonathan Burgess. The project will be working with people in the communities of Denbighshire and Conwy who have been diagnosed with Dementia.
The programme will consist of weekly dementia-friendly rugby sessions to keep people active and socialise with others. The session will be split into two elements. We will create a ‘Rugby Memories’ session to allow attendees to watch old classic rugby matches, and see old match day programmes and memorabilia. The second part of the project will be a blend of physical activities which will include walking rugby sessions or chair-based exercises for people who are able to participate. This will be a great way to get more people active.
Our Community Development Officer stated, “I am excited to get this project up and running in the coming weeks. It is a project close to my heart, and I look forward to supporting the local community”
Our ‘Rugby Memories’ project will be a weekly session at Canterbury House Nursing Home, Rhyl, Denbighshire and Coed Craig, Rhos-on-sea, Conwy, which starts today.
The Foundation will hold a dementia-friendly event at a North Wales Crusaders 2024 home fixture at Eirias Park. We will invite people from the sessions to the fixture and key partners to raise awareness and reduce the stigma of dementia to match day fans.

Hopefully, there will be more memories made this weekend for Crusaders as the first team plays in their Promotion Grand Final on Sunday.”
